Hello Guys, I need help uninstalling Windows 98, because I would like to install a clean version of Windows 98, but it says that I need a clean directory to do this. So the first think I would have to do is clean the hard drive and uninstall the Windows 98 I have right now, but I don't have any clue how to uninstall it. Please help me as soon as possible.
Get the windows 98 installation disk and just install over the partition you're using, it will automatically erase all data.
When I boot the CD directly without logging into the computer it says then "Your computer may have a disk-compression program installed on it. Because this system may contain an existing operation system or data. setup cannot continue." So I don't know what to do.
Have you installed a larger hard drive than the computer bios supports and are you using some utility that came with the hard drive? If the answers are no, continue below. 98 was still dos based if I recall correctly. Make a boot floppy from the current system. Then boot from that floppy. Format c: drive and then try to load your win 98 cd. There are better, harder ways to do it but that should work. If all you have is a 98 upgrade CD post again before you start.
get KILLDISK search for it in google, its free. Put it in your FLOPPY or get the CD one, and boot it up and it will erase all your data, and then you can easily install win98 from your CD on boot.
The best way is to reformat the hard drive. But you will loose all your data. You can reinstall 98 try that. Why not upgrade to windows millenium.
big mistake you need to get a windows 98 OEM boot floppy http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm have the pc boot from floppy 1st follow what it says, format the drive and then put the cd in e:\ setup.exe
I have used the method Awaisuk has told me and it's formating the hard drive right now. Not sure if the windows will work, but we will see.
