And yes I know the way to do this is to go out try and then fail and then learn, but I need some advice on this.'

I know many affiliate websote owners, have many websites. In some cases hundreds. And it appears you get the site set up, get the items your selling in place and then market the site.

I assume SEO must be very important and keywords for SEO as well.

If some one is selling items and making $2-$5 per sell maybe then there is not much room for running an adwords campaign is there?

I guess that is my question, are some of you that are selling normal priced items, ie $30-$100, able to start an adwords campaign? It seems to me the only marketing options would be getting out talking in forums, blogginh about you site like mad etc. Any other advertising tips?

Utilizing Adwords to drive traffic profitably as an affiliate requires that you have an overall strategy.

There are many options you can take, and this depends largely on your time/effort, expertise and/or budget at hand.

Do you have your own website?

If not consider driving traffic directly to the merchant's website.

    Track your ROI.

You need tools to track keyword profitability.

You need to be able to write good ads for people to click on your ads.

Not only that, but you need to be able to pre-qualify people that click so you can save costs since they will be most likely to purchase.

You need to be able to choose good affiliate programs and understand how to test and track.

If you want to build your own website.

You have to be able to write good ad copy and consider designing a squeeze page in order to capture e-mail leads.

And if you go down this route, you need to understand how to follow-up effectively with your customers so that you can build trust.

It's not just about pitching sales message.

I'd love to say it's easy. But IM is hard, but not impossible. If you put in the time, you'll get there.

If youre only making $1-5/sale (or w/e else gets you paid) then you would want to be bidding on cheap keywords at 5 to 10 cents per click. If youre selling products that have big commissions then you can afford to spend more per click in adwords. "Scalability" or something... as the amount you make goes up so can the amount you spend to advertise. (P.S. I know this is the very basics but it looks like this guy is asking about how to use adwords for small commission campaigns)
