I finally got a little page rank according to googles page rank indicator on my browser. I have read how web site designers have been able to be more speechify about their page rank number giving them a better understanding of their PR than just looking at the green bar on the google tool bar but I do not know how this is done. Is there software or some other way to determine this? Eventfully as my PR increases I am hoping to sell inbound links to my site so I may need this kind of information.
Tool bar page rank is very over-rated as a tool in determining anything about how valuable a website really is. It can be manipulated quite easily and it is very easy to get a PR1, 2 and 3. At that point it gets harder to reach each level above but it is really only measuring a set number of backlinks that google is counting and nothing more. Traffic > PR and the only way of measuring that is through Alexa which is not very accurate. To really get a feel for how a website is performing you need to use multiple tools and some common sense. Here is how I do it: -Look at the website to see if it is visually appealing and well kept. -Look to see if there is any unique content and what the general quality of the content is. -Check yahoo backlinks to see if it is well indexed and what type and quality of sites are linking to it. -Check Alexa info to get a general idea of traffic volume, keep in mind that webmaster related sites tend to have exaggerated Alexa numbers. -Check google backlinks to see how many backlinks there are and if it is well indexed. -Have a peek at way back machine to see how long it has been around as the current incarnation of the site. -Check visual page rank to see if any of the inner pages have tool bar page rank (this tells you if the site and the inner pages have been around for 2 or 3 google updates - around 9-10 months time). -You can also check if the site ranks well for the niches popular keywords or for your keywords. And on and on....just read this forum and other good webmaster forums and you can pick up all the tricks of the trade and use them to your benifit. good luck
