My situation is this. I have blocked googlebot for a few months. I want to allow Googlebot to understand the 1 page website again, and then 301 this domain. However, I can't seem to understand at what point, it would be safe to 301 this domain. Googlebot has visited a couple times this month resulting in 3 hits according to Awstats. It's a lean page, so not a lot of content to process. Should I wait for a few more googlebot visits before moving this site? I just want google to remember it first before 301 to a new domain. I appreciate your advice or experience on googlebot visits. Thanks everyone.
What is the purpose? As soon as you redirect the site, it is going to use the content of the new site, not the old site.
I don't want to get into the technical detail as to "why" but think about it. Your site goes away for a while. Google then sees a 301. How do they know what happened to the site for the past 4 months? Make sense? I'm 301 after Google relearns what is on my site.
