So i recently had to change my domain name and was told that in order to transfer all my post/comments/user info etc etc I need to transfer my SQL Database from the old domain to the new domain but i have no way of going about it. Both sites were hosted on ipage.com. I don't have access to the old domain anymore. If anybody could help me out that'll be great because I really don't want to have to start from scratch again with my post and users. If I didn't explain it well enough and need more information just let me know. Thanks
If you still use the same hosting account ( same user on ipage.com ) and just changed domain names, you properbly only need to update your site url in phpmyadmin, or your cms´s config file. That is if you store such a thing at all in your database, which i dont know. if you also got a new hosting account, then yes, you would need to make a sql backup within phpmyadmin or your hostings cpanel ( old account ) and then creating a new mysql database and upload it to this new database on the new account in order to use your stuff. Depending on what cms you use, if at all, the steps may change slightly.
Yes it is the same hosting account but when I go to MySQL on ipage.com it only shows me only one database. On the new domain I've installed a new theme (the old one isn't supported anymore) and made changes to it etc but shouldn't there still be two separate databases? Also when I open MySQL it has two list one titled "MySQL log" and the other "phpMyAdmin". The phpMyAdmin doesn't allow me to go in and change anything it only lets me set the "language and theme/style." Other links on that side say phpMyAdmin documentation and the official phpMyAdmin homepage. So I'm not sure where I'd go and update the site url to the new domain name. I've attached a pic of the screen it gives me when i click on "Access myPhpAdmin." Sorry if this is child's play (I'm new at this)
Something like this isnt possible, you never install anything on a domain, but the hosting account, that said you mostlikely installed the theme into your one db. Accessing the db is at the very left, there you see the different tables. If you want hit me up on skype ( seb_witt ) or msn ( ) Easier to talk there
