Need help to write a meta description that converts

I have a web directory which ranks on the fist page of Bing for three major keywords that delivers over 2,000 search queries per day. I have also a few keywords phrases that are on the second page of Bing as well. So, my SEO is good and don't need help with that. What I need is help writing a compelling meta description that will get people to follow my listing in Bing to my web directory. I believe that this is more of a marketing issue, since I have no issues with ranking for my keywords.

My current meta description is: "A well established web directory doing business since 2006. URL Submit to our web directories index and get that extra URL exposure you're looking for."

My second choice is: "URL Submit to the Madmouse Web Directory to promote your website and increase the amount of web traffic your site receives."

Anybody here on the forum that is good with conversion utilizing the meta description with some suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Conversion means sales per visitors. A meta description seldom has a direct correlation to how well your site sells something. Both descriptions you wrote sound extremely generic. So, in terms of how high you can rank on Bing, I would suggest doing some long-tail keyword research to see what niches are underrepresented but still get a lot of hits.

    Best Regards,

What the deal is, search engines pull their information for my directory listing from my meta tag description. Because of this, my meta description needs to read well and compel people from the search engine queries results to click and visit my site. I rank very well in Bing and there is no need to optimize things any further. As far as long tail keywords, I am doing very good with them as well. However, I believe that this requires some marketing strategy to put some action words in place in the meta description.

You are correct that the examples are generic, however it is working for ranking in the search engines. However, the trick is to add content that will appeal to people and entice them to visit the directory without losing the keywords. Once the people visit the directory, it is up to the landing page to convert the visitors into sales.

I started working on a new description that would have some action words and here is what I currently have now. "The Madmouse Web Directory, established 2006, clearly stands out from all other web directories. URL submit to promote your website & increase traffic." I believe that it reads better from the original. However, marketing isn't my strongest point.
    Thanks

Hit some key points that other directories might not:
    - instant listing
    - thousands of daily viewers
    - sign up in 2 minutes
    Etc.

Idk the specifics of your directory, but you can try "Boost your traffic with thousands of our premier directory listing viewers in under 2 minutes - sign up for free now!"

    Good luck.

Well what's your top benefit of the web directory? Try to see what's others do and get some ideas there.

I'm sure you already know this, but let me just repeat it and consider it a reminder.:)) You meta description needs to reflect the content of your page. Each page should have a different meta description. You quoted: "URL Submit to the Madmouse Web Directory to promote your website and increase the amount of web traffic your site receives." Well, if that is on your page, you are good to go. If not, do your keyword research or look at your stats and see what keyword phrases people are using to come to your page. Then create a page focusing on those keywords. It sounds like you are just trying to come up with a catchy phrase to get people to visit your site without knowing what keywords you need to focus on. Don't do that. Do your research and build you page around the phrases you want.

This of course applies to your Tilte as well.. If google does not think your meta description is any good because it does not match your page contents, it will not use it and replace it with the contents of your page.

Thanks for reminding me and you are correct that I wanted something catchy. I figured, that I would find the catchy phrase and then rewrite the page content so that it is relevant. However, I changed things back so that they are relevant and my search engines rankings should now go back to normal.
