Need Help to SEO a Non-Profit Site

    I recently gave a total face lift to this site www.tinyheartsfoundation.org

    Earlier the site had a business-like look which would not go well with an org site. So I changed it to what it is now.

    Earlier it was a HTML site and now its a php site with an index page and all other pages have an include for header and footer.

    I need some specific help and suggestions to SEO the site.

    Suppose I have 10 phrases in mind like "charitable organizations in India", "free heart surgery for kids", "donate for a kids charity" etc etc

    ---- 1 ) Should I optimize each page for a single phrase?

    ---- 2 ) While doing that if I include the phrase in the title and the meta-tags -- will it work for the site if the phrase does not appear in the body text?

    - I want the site to be as clean as it now, so would like to have some suggestions on how to SEO it without any change in its content.

    I would highly appreciate if anybody here in DP shares his/her experience in optimizing an ORG site.

    Abhilash.

    You should optimize each page for the phrase that is most relevant to the content on the page. If the content does not contain keyphrases, you should write new content that does.

    Generally speaking, if you want to gain the benefits of SEO, you will most likely have to rewrite your content with SEO in mind.

    Optimizing a .org site shouldn't be any different than optimizing any other site. You might get some added benefit (especially with Yahoo) for being on a .org domain, though.

    Free advice is worth every penny.

    Here's my 2 cents worth:

    Edit the head area for each page to include a specific and relevant title and meta tags for each individual page.

    Your current home page head:
    <head>
    <title>Tiny Hearts Foundation</title>
    <meta name="generator" content="Namo WebEditor v5.0(Trial)">
    </head>

    Proposed home page head may be:
    <head>
    <title>Tiny Hearts Foundation</title>
    <meta name="keywords" content="children, charities, charity, childrens, non profit organization, disabilities, heart, birth defect, kids charity, nonprofit organization, tiny hearts foundation">
    <meta name="description" content="Tiny Hearts Foundation exists to benefit children with birth defects of the heart">
    <meta name="robots" content="index,follow">
    </head>

    Best wishes,

    Thanks for both the replies. I have changed the homepage meta tags.

    Any more suggestions?
