I just bought a website and need to move the wholesale site to my hosting account from the previous owner. The site is contain simple html pages which i have no problem to move but there is a phpbb forum which i never dealt with before. I need help to move and reinstall the whole site include the forum without lossing the old forum posts / datas. Willing to pay around US$25 for the service. please pm me if interested. thank you
Ask your host, for sure they will do it for free. Your options are: Take complete backup of domain in cpanel and restore it at new server. Take backup of database of forum from old site and restore it at new site. I would reccomend you the first one, you can ask your host to do it for you. This would be the neat option. BTW: what is the version of PHPBB its using now?
you need to transfer files plus the mysql need to reinstall same version and then upgrade from that version.
It's quite simple really. You don't need to uninstall-reinstall either. If they've done any mods whatsoever, you probably don't want to uninstall and reinstall it. 1. Create the database with the correct dbname username and password. 2. import the database. 3. upload the site and forum files. 4. read through the phpbb install instructions and set the correct permissions (chmod) for the appropriate files and folders -(you can do this using an ftp client or your control panel) You're all set. Nothin to it. I'm not sure how phpbb determines your sites root path, so if it's different and it's set manually you might need to change it.
