Can any one plz tell me that what all are the things should i keep in mind while applying for an ODP editor to get through. Thanks
I have applied alot of times. One thing I had in my mind always was that 'I know they are not letting me be a mod here'
1. Study all the excellent advice here. 2. Give complete and truthful answers to all the questions. 3. Ignore all other advice in this forum.
That's a bit of an arrogant statement isn't it? There might be some misinformation but there might also be some helpful tips, who knows.
If only your Resourceless Zone would give advices that would benefit the directory for new applicants then the decline for monthly reports would not be downwards. You piece of garbage. Its editors like you that give a bad name for the ODP. You come in here to say that ? Why don't you just stay at RZ. I have had enough of arrogant editors like you. You have some good ODP Ambassadors here don't give them a bad reputation.
The advice in that thread was excellent. It is 4 years old though, and sensitivities have changed a bit. For example, whilst new editors do get accepted for commercial categories it is patently easier to start off in a non-commercial or Regional category. I don't think there was any need for that comment. This forum has no better a name in many respects as RZ has, and resorting to insults doesn't improve the reputation here either. Sure, dplurker's comment came across as a tad arrogant but then there is a lot of misinformation put about here. Can't we be tolerant of one another? Annie always sets a good example.
I know! http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=77342 Plus, I think there were at least 2 more that were accepted about the same time by applying tips they received here.
I suppose it all depends on the person, if he is an A*shole like the majority in RZ then he will feel right at home in RZ and fine it useful. In regard to usefulness of this forum, at least 3 persons who shall remain nameless have become editors in DMOZ after following my advices. Two of them contacted me after being rejected the first time.
I've made few such posts around basically as brizzie said pick some totally obscure non-commercial category and advance from there, creating new categories since many are missing in DMOZ is easy way to get your edit counts up since getting permission for new categories can be difficult as much as getting in. Before I use to recommend honesty but since honesty got me removed now my advice would be to fake your profile and hide your affiliations like snakes hides there legs since your affiliations will paint target mark on you for META's which you won't be able to lose even if you do perfect job - honesty is not something that has much value at DMOZ. You can use some ugly looking non-commercial personal website with zero SEO as cover. Nah, that's just gworld's extra accounts.
To be quite honest I thought I should not say it but looking at this thread makes me feel the other way. Mods at DP are no big people, they are some guys (lucky maybe) who applied alot earlier and got selected. There are categories which haven't been updated since years. Dmoz editors do take money and approve sites which belong to their friends or relatives. I might be wrong but whatever I am saying comes out of personal experience. DMOZ has lost its flavour cos mods over there act as if they are GODS and approve alot of stupid sites!!!
That is not true, Robozilla regularly removes dead sites! While I was editor I could have only dreamed of running into moron which would be willing to pay anything (but I was pretty low on the food chain), as for friends and relatives almost none of them has a website (with exception of 3 websites which wouldn't even exist if I didn't bugged friend to create them), OTOH I live in country which has population of 4,4 millions so technically everyone knows somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody... or is somehow related. You did read report for August; total number of sites is going down and less and less are added each month.
Not sure who or what it is but I still see cats last updated in 2005 & 2004 (http://dmoz.org/Arts/Movies/Titles/B/Bollywood-Hollywood/). We can find many like these. I never talked about dead sites. Dead categories means mods are not approving new sites. Most of the mods are either dead or careless. I have paid someone to get in DMOZ already... 3 times Yea, you are right on this. Only people who are friends with mods or bribe them are added ...so its less!!!
I have submited my site's "n" number of times, all are good quality no adult or warze sites, still waiting for my chance. Its been more than a year my luck has not turned around yet.
Haven't you read the posts here? Nothing wrong with paying editors, it is called "SEO" project by "senior" editors.
And that means what ? Squat ? Did it get a high percentage of applying editors and approved editors ? As you have stated in your previous posts it doesn't mean anything unless the guidelines and new ways to attract qualifying editors would simply be the same old ways unless changed. What !? While you can give straight answers and honest opinions here does RZ provide that ? The commandoes in there will just give you an answer like Please see Facts or We don't provide status checks anymore. What good is that ? Look around you. Go to other topics in this forum and see answers to questions by NORMAL people. Yeah I guess we could. But talk to your SLAVES first before asking me. Yes she does.
I didn't say in *all* respects, RZ is pretty much useless though you rarely see incorrect information, but when it comes to abusing people this forum does not exactly set any good examples. What was it? "You piece of garbage". Never heard that one in RZ. Or maybe I heard it but didn't see the actual words... Two wrongs don't make a right though. My slaves? Not sure what you're talking about there but does it really matter who starts doing the tolerating. There is a big leap between saying that a comment sounds arrogant, and calling the poster a piece of garbage. Why stoop to that level?
That was probably a silly thing to say in a public forum when there are sites attached to your signature.
