I want to upgrade my computer's HDD, my motherboard is Intel D845PESV. so my question are as follow: 1. if I replace my current HDD with a new one will I lose my data? if I will lose my data then how to avoid losing it? 2. is it possible to add another HDD instead of replacing it so I can have two HDD? my knowledge in computer is very limited, I searched on the net but I can not find user-level details regarding this, especially for Q#2. please advice me on this if you are knowledgeable in this area. your help is greatly appreciated. thanks, Torrey.
Yes to number 2. Just add a second drive. You will keep your data, and the extra drive will be extra storage space. Your motherboard has 2 IDE sockets, so you will need an IDE drive (not a SATA drive). You may need another IDE cable depending on how your computers set up, but usuallly the IDE cable has 2 sockets on the end that connects to the hard drive so you can connect 2 hard drives to the same motherboard IDE socket. You will have to check the jumpers are set correctly on the 2 drives (make your original drive the master and he new drive the slave) Then you just need to plug it in, and make sure your bios is set to auto-detect the drives (it probably is). Once you power the computer up and (if you are using windows) you may need to format the drive using the disc manager, which may or may not happen automatically
Answers for your questions 1)You won't lose any data bcz of hardware upgradation unless you format HD 2)Yes you can add second HD instead of replacing old one, and it is clearly explained by PHPsiteminder You can get answers / solutions for any problems relating to computer/ IM here @ DP. DP rocks
You can add a 2nd drive. Just transfer your docs, files, pictures to the 2nd drive so your first drive will free up some space for Windows.
if you want to reInstall your computer, just unplug the first HDD, and plug the new one, reInstall the OS, plug again the old HDD, and copy back your data. walahhh you have a fresh OS and your data is saved.
