Need Help - Low CTR

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by PaulFOX, Feb 1, 2007.

My site dvdcoversfuzion.com has been up for a month and while I get some nice bursts of traffic, my adsense CTR is something to cry over:(. Currently its quite low so I figure there must be something wrong with my layout.

I have seen many improve their CTR through other members suggestions. So how can I improve my CTR?

    Thanks.

Well it depends a lot on how targeted the traffic is.
    What's the traffic source?

I find Adsense very well implemented not to be too much on the page.

First of - your ad should be above the fold.

To view the topics or images you ask the user to register - that takes away a good chunk of the traffic. In forums you have one 728x60 banner - They normally get less clicks - try using link units and blend them well.

    1) Place your ads well
    2) Blend your ads well
    3) Work on increasing traffic

    CTR will rise.

    Goodluck..

Traffic comes from a few sources: google, forums, social bookmarking etc.

Well, first off, forums are infamous for having a low CTR, so don't expect a very high CTR.
Also, on some of your pages, such as the topics, I don't even see any ads.

Otherwise, your ads are blended quite nicely.

To be honest, your ads are blended nicely and i believe you should get good CTR if your site have good traffic ( no offence but i believe your daily web traffic is less than 100 unique visitors - 0 pr, no alexa ranking as well )

There are several things that you might consider.

    1. Fix the page resolution of your site.
    2. Use better color combination or sharp color because usually entertainment sites have a lot of nice graphics. :)

Well as I mentioned the site has been up for ~month. I'm not expecting hundreds of clicks although compared to my other sites the CTR is disappointing. I've heard before the forums tend to generate low CTR.

Thanks for everyones advice so far, some useful tips which will hopefully improve my CTR.

How low is it? It would better if you gave us a range so we could better gauge how much it would be possible to improve. Remember, some types of sites just don't do very well in terms of CTR. For them, there have to make up by getting a ton of traffic.

that only is valid if forums are fully de-optiized in ad-formats and ad-placements

i have forums and they all to very well - i hve configured / changed the template to make the forum look nearly like a regular page

and accordingly i have adapted the very same formats of ads that G considers the 3 most successful

and with G's recent request for ATF rectangles - 2 of the forums are already modified and the CTR went even more up again

basically my esperience about those complaining about low CTR is that they use OTHER than the 3 officiallly announced successful formats and the low CTR sites also use different from the desired ad placement

if G aks for medium rectangle 300x250ATF - then it should be ATF and video capable rectangle as well - rather than smaller formats

if you do what G needs to ma their advertiser customers happy, and G gives you what makes you happy = more $

have the courage to be progressive - have the courage to make bright colors and large formats ads as needed by advertisers

you could add a square link unit under the "contact zone" links ..
also i suggest to change the colors a bit. dark gray, blue, orange and white ??!!

    good luck
