If you are just starting out then I'd advise you to use hostgator. They've got good prices, cpanel is very easy, and you won't have any problems setting it up. Btw, web hosting is probably what you are looking for. If you just need to host your website..

Normal shared hosting is just fine a forum, unless it gets really popular. No need to go with IPB enhanced hosting or anything silly like that. It's just a forum. Any host can handle that.

You may also want to start with instantfreesite.com since they offer instant free cpanel hosting. They have many features just like any other web hosting services but it's for free so you can try it out for a while. You can upgrade anytime you with full assistance. They have a large community too if ever you want to ask around.

I suppose that the best web hosting solution for running forums will be VPS. Before choosing a web host, be sure that you deal with reliable web hosting provider - read customer hosting reviews.

I believe that you can start with shared hosting and when your forum will grow move to VPS. I'd suggest you to us hosts with rich experience in business and great support to help you with your website, e.g Hosteasier.com is suitable for this.

Yes, it would be ideal and recommended for you to start out with shared hosting or reseller hosting if multiple sites.

Reseller is not important as actually you can put your sites in one account.

first use any shared hosting and if traffic increases then go for vps (virtual private server which is part
    of dedicated server)

Other customer's reviews of the hosting services. Same as any business, the hosting vendor should be able to provide good references.

Just go for some shared hosting first.
If it grows until have lots of members, then only consider to upgrade to a VPS.

Forums, need to be real fast, you may want a VPS from day one. There's a cloud vps provider called surmounted.net that'd be good for you.

If you are just starting out, shared hosting should be fine. Just find a reputable provider in your price range and make sure you read reviews before buying.

    Good luck!

As you are new you can use re seller or shared hosting >>> vps hosting >>> dedicated hosting. It is depend on your website topic. Your traffic. Your load. And Bandwidth. Every hosting is good. but it is depend on your website.
