Need help - how do make wordpress themes

Hey,

I am thinking of starting to make wp as I have some great ideas but I have no idea where to start, do you have to make it through a PSD or can you make it straight? Which one is better? Where is the best places to get free/legal images? I have tried searching on google but they aren't any good sites.

You can find great images at sxc.hu
But if you use images from sxc.hu you cannot sell your template.
A good way to make a wp template is to start from a blank template and implementing your design.

 

When you say file, which file type do you mean?

Thanks a lot, download one. Whats the best way to edit it? Can you visually edit it, or just coding edit?

I saw a dreamweaver extension which show live how a wordpress template look but I can't remember now the name/address...but try to search on google (I don't have much time now to search).
I think the best way is to make the design of all parts (comments form, menus, sidebar etc) and add them to the wordpress theme.
