I check with whois, and found out that the domain name that was transferred to me has an expiration date till 2009 but when i tried to add the domain name to my host, it tells me that the domain name has expired. This is the message i got

Most Registrars will immediately DECLINE a transfer attempt on an expired domain. DO NOT CONTINUE if you have renewed proxy4life.info with the Losing Registrar 5173-GO within the past 7 days or else you will likely lose one year of domain registration service. To avoid this warning, wait until 2008-08-06 and try again. If you don't care if you lose a year or if you are sure you haven't renewed in the past 7 days, then you can try to continue at your own risk. If you decide to continue and end up losing a year of domain registration, you'll need to contact support to explain your situation.

can anyone explain this to me?

That seems to happen frequently. When a domain name gets past the expiry
date/or into the redemption period, sometimes the WHOIS will start to show the expiry date as if it has been renewed for one more year.

Do not always rely on WHOIS records...Best thing is for you to look at the expiry date within your user panel. The one that is usually right next to the domain name. That should be the correct date.

Also, with most registrars, you cannot transfer a domain name if it is very close to /past the expiry date.
