    Hey,

I am not sure whether this is the right section of the forum, I hope it is.

I am a content provider on DP and have to work with a lot of different writers, some exceptionally good and some exceptionally bad.

Hence, I get all kind of work. Thus, I needed to hire a proofreader who could read through the articles, correct them for grammatical errors and typos etc. but I dont know what to pay.

Can anyone tell me what is a decent price (not market price but DP price) for such job, like per hundred words?

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    Vanshaj

    Hey Vanshaj,

I would suggest looking at elance or any freelance bidding site. Check out the rates these editors are charging, and this should give you a good idea of what to pay. You should also take a look at the Buy, Sell or Trade section here on DP for editing services.

    I hope this helps. :)

I read a little while ago that the going rate for a professional editing service was between $2 and $5 an article, but that seems a little high to me. I assume that the DP price would be much much lower than that. If you offered the work out in bulk you could reduce the price even further.

Sorry I couldn't give you any specifics.

    Kat :)

Hello Vanshaj. Kat gave you a good suggestion about doing your research first on the average rates. I also suggest you determine how much you're willing to pay for that kind of service and try to balance it with the quality you'll be getting for your budget.

    Good luck! :)

I agree with the above posts. Personally, I have paid between 50 and 75 cents per 500 word article at GAF. It gets pricey, but is well worth it when you're processing 40-60 articles per day.

Are you looking for editors or re-writers? No matter how good an editor is, just correcting grammar, spelling, sentence structure, etc, etc won't make a poorly written article suddenly sparkle.

He's looking for a proofreader. So basically, he just wants somebody to clean up articles. :)

Yeah. I am not looking for re-writers. I do screen out the really terrible pieces, but there are some that you know can look better and fetch more only by minor tweaking.

Any ways, thanks a lot guys.

Considering that you are looking for a rate that would be "generally acceptable" among the DP member population, I would suggest a rate of $1-$2 per article if you just want some proofreading done. You really should base your offering rate on the word count though. And also, keep in mind that a proofreader must usually do some editing and so, they should be compensated for that as well. I'm sure that you could probably find someone who could get the job done at that rate, but the stipulation would probably be that you provide work in bulk quantities.

I have done some proofreading and the pricing is definitely lower than writing. If it is in bulk, the price is negotiable, probably you will get some discount. The best is to pay by article but if you like to pay by word, it should work out fine too. I would charge by article because most of the time, I need to proofread many articles. Usually it is around $2-3 per article, depending on the client's budget as well. You might want to get a few quotations from proofreaders. Then you will know the general pricing range.

For "regular" clients, I charge $2.50 per page for proofreading (assuming 450 words per page). For DP, I would charge $1.00 or $1.50 per page because most clients here are budget-conscious.
