Need Help from Link Building Experts

I want to do link building for a client but I have a dilemma with the URL. The main URL is healthandsafetysource.com, but it redirects to http://www.healthandsafetysource.com/store/home.php

I have been doing promotion using just the dotcom address for many months, but when I began to see that there are hardly any backlinks I began to wonder if, when I promote and try to build links should I be using the second URL listed above? Or do I need to get them to create a home page for just the main URL? I am wanting to do some heavy link building this weekend and wanted to get some input from you experts before I proceed.

Does it matter, I guess is my bottom line. Thanks in advance.

As a rough guide it is thought that 2/3 links to home page and the other 1/3 to inner pages this gets the best results.

It all depends on what your site is for. Are you a transaction or ecommerce site? If so, you may consider linking to categories or brands for backlinks. Remember - tailor your anchor text to the search queries you are looking to snag. Once you are ranking for the queries you're after, you'll start seeing some return (assuming the queries you're ranking for are correct for your market).

But you can see the backlinks, can't you? Or are you just wondering where to put them?

I suggest you use 301 redirect so that your problem will be solved regarding your website... :)

Do you mean to use the address that the site redirects to, the one I listed above? Or are you saying I need to create a new redirect? I am confused, always have been about redirects.
