I want you people’s help to get involved in my new try in tracking offline project, this process will get involved with basic java programming that will assign a cookie and unique id to a visitor’s machine, which will hold a key to the campaign, and the keyword that referred them. After being succeed in this I need to be able to pull that code into my online chat client so that my colleague (who is in sales department) can see the code when they are closing a sale over the phone, this way they will know which campaign generated the sale..

This process is for to track our phone calls (offline) over sales (mean how and for which campaign we are generating sales).

Can any one suggest me how can I move ahead for this?

    Thanks for all your replies:)

Maybe it would help if you described the complete sales process you're trying to track...

Are you trying to track this for organic traffic or PPC traffic like Google Adword clicks?
How does the typical sales process work? (user searches, clicks on a Google ad, taken to a landing page w/ a live chat link and a phone number
    Sometimes live chat closes deal...
Sometimes consumer calls number to close the deal...

Be specific about all the various flows through the sales process and what metrics you want to track at each point in the process.

Generally speaking, the best way to track conversions due to offline advertising is to use a different 800 phone number for each campaign. Tracking call volume and conversions by 800 # will give you metrics for each campaign.

If you are using a Web Analytics package, they can typically give you traffic volume to your various landing pages on the site and which keywords drove that volume. If you are doing PPC, then add an identifier (tracking code) in the URL that is unique to each ad or adgroup (depending on what level you want to track for).
