I don't want to mention any names yet as I am still trying to get this resolved from the vendor. But here is what happened... I purchased an information package from a company. In their attempts to keep this information from being propogated around the Internet without being paid, they forced the buyers to retrieve the information from their website via an application I had to install on my PC. All this is fine...I completely understand their concerns and the value they place on their information...it is valuable information. I paid the advertised priced and thought everything was fine. Now, I'm being told that they will be taking down the information from their website and if the buyers want access to the information, they will have to purchase a hard copy...for 50% higher price than the original package...same information! This was never mentioned in their original sales page, which is now gone, of course. Now, I don't mind paying a nominal fee that would be needed to cover printing and shipping, but I don't think they should be charging me all over again for the same information I already paid for. (Believe me, the price they are asking is about 15 times more than it would cost to print and ship...I know this because I have lots of experience at the Office Depot print center). I know this post is getting long so I will wrap it up...anybody know what this would be called? I was thinking larceny or extortion, but I don't believe either of these apply here.
I suggest you continue dealing with the vendor about this. Without knowing the terms of the agreement or their replies to this matter, nobody can fully understand what exactly went wrong. Consult an attorney if need be.
