so I am working with a werid system...yahoo store. I have a globe header where I added all my meta tags, keywords, description, content and such. But I can also add keywords, description and content to different pages i.e product pages. when I view source on a product page, it shows the global tags and the product tags, can search engines ban the site for this?

I don't think you would get banned for that.
But if you can (don't set global tags maybe ?) , better to have only one of each tag per page.

The site already has a good ranking...If I remove the tags will the ranking drop?

You probably won't be banned, but your site will be flagged for human review.

It's best to customize each page so it only has an appropriate description and keywords that are relevant to that page just to be on the safe side.

Also bear in mind that meta tags are virtually worthless these days and that you should spend no more than five to ten minutes on them.

It will not get your site banned. I would make the meta description appropriate for the page that it's on if you can. It would help out more for the page.

This is an issue of "not so ideal code". You won't be banned.

    I wouldn't think about it.

i dont think that you will be banned because of it but it's not a good seo way.

for product pages, it's better to dispay meta tags for only product. disable the global meta tags on product pages
