    Hello All,

We just built a website and we had no idea how much traffic it would get.

It is hosted on a server with

    2.33 quad core processor
    8 GB ram

what we are getting is 80-100 percent cpu usage, and then the site crashes and comes back up.

is there anything we can do here, or can apache only handle like 40-60 requsts per minute.

the site is joomla and megento, any help would be great and we would even being willing to pay a gru for help with this.

its hosted at a great company media temple, it was on a dv extreme, and had the same problems, we upgraded to a Nitro yesterday ( the specs above and pretty much the same problem, we are trying to avoid a load balance or dbase web server type set up.

any help or advice would be greatly appriciated, and if you need more info just ask

Odds are its MySQL that is causing it to hang. Have you done any fine tuning? Also, I hope that you mean requests per second, not minute. A PHP caching engine would be of great use as well. Do you run a control panel with this server?

yes we run plesk, do u suggest any fine tuning tools, and we mean per minute so it seems that the server and site should be able to handle way more than that to me.

    Hi there,

You can take a look at one of my blog post regarding a couple of tools to fine tune MySQL. Yikes, there is something seriously wrong if that is per minute. A couple of my servers are running at 70-90 requests per second.
