    i am wanting to research a few websites, as i want to build a similar one, the ones i am looking at are kickstarter, gogetfunding, pozible, startsomegood, peerbackers; new jelly

    given your expertise

    what i am wanting to know is do they use some sort of script or plugin or have they been built from ground up?

    If you are going to build it with a CMS platform like wordpress then you will have option to install plugins from there free plugins database!!

    I think most of the big sites built from the ground up, so that they can have more flexibility.

    Most of them build from the ground up, but for CMS based and whatnot to save on resources, usually they extend existing ones...

    To build a website from ground up, you can look into frameworks such as CakePHP or Zend Framework. If smaller scale websites you can look into Joomla, WordPress
