hey there.. I have Flash Chat from tufat.com , installed and integrated with my vbulletin 4 forum, and now i need to have their Audio Video module, which requires me to have Flash Media Server. So i just want some advice from you, that is it ok if I install that on my dedicated server, would that harm my server performance, or anything like that..? Here is my server config... cpu: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80GHz memory: 4gig drive: 160gig sata OS: centos5.3 php 5.2.13 mysql 5.0.90
I dont think it will harm your server. Tufat chat support red5 server? if so, you can install the red5 server and its free too.
If you have your own linux dedicated server, install red5 using this Red5 on Linux Installation Tutorial. We use for our customers these Red5 Hosting plans.
Either one will work. Agreed. The major difference being price and ease of installation. Flash Media Server will cost a small fortune and is relatively easy to install. Red5 is free (open source) but is a bit** to install. Once installed, however, other than server there is no further cost. I would seriously consider using a dedicated server for the media server because conflicts with IIS or Apache (over ports) makes it hard to run both a web server AND a streaming media server on the same box. I run both Flash Media Server AND Red5 on the same windows server 2003 box, but I turn off one when I am demo'ing the other and vice-versa. I also don't run a web server or any other application on that server and I can stream from either to any application designed for them pretty flawlessly.
You can also try wowza media server 2. Is cheaper than AFMS. We run our sites, demos and also provide hosting on multiple servers using all 3: wowza, adobe, red5. From our experience we found the wowza server to be the best solution for reliability and red5 for budget on small servers or vps.
