Okay, well as most of you probably know I ask this question because I run a gadget blog. Now the things people hate are tech news blogs (i can get news somewhere else), and using to much confusing language so people don't understand what the hell your talking about. Now I looked at Engadget and Gizmodo and honestly I don't understand what makes them so popular. They write a paragraph or two and then link to the source. Anybody can do that. I don't call that real content. I have been trying to offer that (though I don't know if I have). So, what do you hate that I am doing or what do you hate that tech blogs do so that I can make mine better? Regards, Skinny
I look at gizmondo because of the frequency of posts - no other reason... Regardless as to whether they write their own content, they link to the source - which is what I'm interested in.
I would concentrate on doing original content. Don't do gadget reviews/links you just saw on Engadget, you need to differentiate somehow. You'll know you have done well when people start to copy your ideas, consider it flattery and a sign of success
Things I hate about tech blogs....reading the same cr@p over and over and over again. Tell me something I haven't read a million other places. Give me YOUR take on things. Talk about some cool gadget NO ONE has ever talked about before. Be bold. Be different. Be fun.
I don't really hate anyting about tech news blogs. But like dazzlindonna said, reading the same thing over and over again gets dull. What makes Gizmodo so popular IMO is the sheer amount of posts which translates into thousands of web pages (every post has its own page) that get spidered by search engines. Just keep posting stuff and you'll start seeing hits from SEs. Btw... You have a category named "Gadets" on Gazotto.
I don't like articles/blog/whatever in the gadget field that don't go into enough detail. IE This is a great item and here's some of the specs from the side of the box. This tells me that you know nothing and I am wasted enough time with you. I think most people who do this are a poor man's Best Buy salesman. Now, if your purpose is just to have content and shift some traffic around, by all means ignore this one. However, if you are trying to make yourself a top figure--best to go all out. I looked at THIS ARTICLE. You Said: "Frankly, I don’t know what to make of satellite radio. There are definitely good benefits. There are no commercials and everything is uncensored." This is not correct. There are some censored channels on S-Radio (XM for example). Little things that like can discredit the whole article--and source. I thought the layout was pretty simple--good thing--and the picture adds a nice touch. I don't know why some people don't understand the power of pictures. Good luck with it!
Dazzlindonna loved that post. @marketjunction SIRIUS actually stated that they're channels, especially comedy channels. Though I could be wrong . . . and am willing to be corrected. Keep this coming! Skinny
Let me be clear, I did not mean to imply that the line I quoted will ruin your whole article. I meant that if those sorts of things show up many times in an article or the slip up is major, it could destroy credibility. I doubt anyone would even notice something like that. I did because I am anal with language. Also I have had both XM and SIRIUS since they came out and was a SIRIUS shareholder for some time.
