Hello, I have recently joined the forum but have been reading posts for a few weeks now. The information here inspired me to create my own adsense/affiliate website. (see my sign in name) I would like to get feedback on my marketing plan for all you that have more experience in this area. My plan, in order of priority for increasing traffic to the site is as follows 1. Post and html site map and send an automated xml site map to Google and txt sitemap to Yahoo 2. Send a press release to pronline.com promoting my new site. (usually picked up same day by search engines) 3. Obtain a back link from a PR7 site.(google usually indexes new links in a week or so) 4. Submit at least one article to an article directory. 5. Post announcements(spam script) on blogs(don't preach!) 6. Request a link in the Yahoo directory. (may happen anyway with 1 or 2 above) 7. Install a link request script to build link popularity 8. Explore creating an RSS feed for my own articles (could really use help on this one) Thanks for any feedback that is given. I hope to contribute myself to others going forward.
I think 8.) is very best you can do - writing articles and submitting them all over the net including a backlink. 3.) seems a bit risky because Google "could" wonder why a new website is getting such a high PR link. Maybe it would be better to obtain 10 PR 4 links before getting the PR7? It could be cheaper too. Good luck with your site!
Thanks for the response. I wasn't aware that Google penalized for getting linked too early on high PR sites. Has this happened to anyone before? Anyone have a good tutorial/how-to site for setting up RRS on websites? I am confortable with html, CGI, PHP and Javascript but don't know why this technology is just confusing to me.
If you are familiar with PHP the DP-thread will help you with your RSS setup: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=32265
I am adding Digg postings as well as Wikipedia postings. I suppose technically these are covered in items 4 & 5 but just in case someone is making their own list. Wikipedia is an interesting tactic in that you can post a page and even though it could get deleted later by the community, your site is still crawled by Google within days. Try searching for "Searchnology" in Wikipedia.
Those look decently good. You mentioned them being affiliate sites, perhaps you should look into some PPC advertisements to get some initial traffic? If you wants lots and lots of traffic, just sue Google. Make sure you have quite a bit of information and or "content" on the site when you launch it so you get the most of your initial press release and other marketing methods. Best of luck.
Okay, I have to add posting in this forum to the list. My posts were picked up in only a couple of days. Mostly because I use my site domain as my user name. Otherwise wait the 7 days and make 10 (good) posts.
Latest update. The PRWEB.com press release worked well as far as getting indexed in Yahoo and Google almost overnight however there was not a bump in traffic. Posting in this forum actually worked just as well and is free. The sitemap has also helped get more pages crawled by Yahoo. Google has yet to read the sitemap submitted.
Congrats on the indexing. I visited your directory. What software program do you use for it? You have a good format for the adsense ads going down the right site of the page.
I tried looking for Searchnology in wikipedia. Deleted already? Interesting idea though. I did once link one of my pages from a related subject in the Wiki, but the link was removed not long after.
You missed something though: Content. P.S. Did you submit it to DIGG? I'd love to read what they thought of it.
