I'm thinking about starting a more specialized site and need help with the domain name selection.
Since most of the names I really want are already take I need to purchase a name that have another word in the domain name.
What is the best way to select a name in terms of SEO? (What would help rank better)

    Example:
"Onlinetrollingmotors.com" Online is before the keywords I want to rank before
    or
"trollingmotorsONLINE.com" Online is AFTER the keyword I want to rank for.

I don't know if it;s beter to have the extra word before or after the keyword I would like to rank for.
    Also would dashes be better?

    Example:
    trolling-motors.com

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can use a variation of the original word including dashes I had a website with smiler situation and it ranked well, using variation will also help to rank for smiler keywords related to your niche. Since your desired domain names are already taken you can try other domain extensions like .me .us .info

It doesn't really matter if you use a suffix or prefix.
You can use a dash as well.

    Thanks for your help.
So Izerman, you're saying a prefix and a sufix would effect Google in the same way?
I always thought that it would be better to have the keywords I wanted at the beginning with nothing before those words?

You can use both if you want.Try to use a domain name that is easy for people to remember out there, and also easy to write. There are potential customers out there who their native language is not english.I would say something that is not to clever, easy for everyone to remember in case they want to refer you to their friends in the future. All the best.

I agree with Gianni, it also helps to keep domain names short too and easy to remember. :)

Dashes will be the best, and if adding words, out them after your keywords. Note: never break your keywords.

Buy domain which is easy to rember for your visitors. Don't buy long name domain just because it has every keyword you use in yours SEO.

Use some sort of "stop" word at the end of the keyword IE: keywordx.com or keyword180.com

Google reads left to right like we do and sees this as a stop and only reads your keyword!
