Buying Need Clarification about Domain transfer on WhoIS records Please.

I have never bought a domain from another person before, so I have a couple of questions:

Let's say, for example, I am interested in buying website xyz because of its awesome name.

So, let's say I want to find out more about xyz.com.
I go to the whois records to see more information on it.
I see it was registered in November 2007 and is 3 years old, and all the other information.

Ok so now let's say I go ahead and buy it.

Now my question is this:
On the WhoIS records, would it say that the domain was transfered to me on the date I bought it? or would that info be recorded at all or not?

Also if I would want to register privately would I also have to buy private registration when I get website xyz transfered to me?

No, on whois record only your data as the owner will be recorded, not the date of the transfer.

The short answer is: Yes.

after domain pushed to your (say) godaddy account. you can change the ownership (in case the name still showing previous owner).
it may take 48 hours or less to make your name appears on "whois".
