I think that you'd better add some extra dollars to find reliable paid hosting provider instead of using free hosting services and have headaches.

 

I'd also recommend Tumblr or Posterous. They allow you to have fully cuztomized blog and they're more reliable than any free host.
You can even use them to host a small website.

 

instead of free or cheap host, I would suggest using services like blogger, once you have enough to go for a good hosting than start with paid hosting, but free and cheap is headache, you might loose your site or mostly offline issues, as free host or cheap host when they close their services you never know, after all everyone need income to provide service which is not possible in cheap or free

So if you are looking for a host for launching many sites then this is the one. otherwise you should use blogger and get evrything for free.
