Need an idea for TownTalkers.com

I have always loved my domain TownTalkers.com

It was originally a classifieds website until it crashed. I am not going to go back to that format but instead I would like to try something completely new. I am going for a more unique idea.

I am open to any and all suggestions. I want to make this a great website (whatever it may be).

Make it as a Social Network where ppl can connect others in their town and discuss abt their town!

 

I have actually thought about this. If I was to do this idea, I would like a nice, simple script. Any suggestions? I have no idea.

 

If you want a readymade solution go for Boonex Dolphin.
If you have intermediate technical knowledge means you can go for Joomla with Community Builder.
If you have advanced technical knowledge means you can go for Drupal.

All the above 3 are opensource and almost free.

 

I am not sure but you can try ning.com, kickapps.com, jinity.com etc..

 

You can use the above sites but your website will start depending on those sites. If you want an independent site you must go for a seperate script!

 

open a forum, it will suit good for your domain, concentrate on specific niche. it will work good.

 

Make maximum out of it by setting up a product reviewing site.
You can make it this way,all the people in town is talking about this product etc.
On the other side,you can earn by putting the affiliate link into it.

 

I would create a forum with categories for each major city.

 

A blog will do a whole a lot of good to your domain.cheers..

 

I would do restaurant/entertainment reviews various cites. You could have it be user submitted.

 

I second that. Focus on some geographic area and offer quality reviews. That would be interesting for local people as well as companies willing to advertise on your website.

 

try some city based forums..something like illinois.towntalkers .com and keep adding more cities as it gets bigger n bigger..the forum will have disussions on everything like restaurants, best shopping places in the city, complaints about the city corporation, etc etc.

Also, you can run a journalism blog.Suppose u start illinois.towntalkers .com then there will be few people in that city who are interested in shopping, eating out etc etc. Start a blog where they will report and review the stuffs..add more cities as it grows bigger..

The scope is very big and your domain is supercool..but the initial investment may be heavy on your pocket.

I really like this idea too! Unfortunately, I do not know very much about running forums... such as which kind, etc. If anyone has information along those lines, that would be great. Also, its not out of the question to invest or use a script that could fulfill the same purposes.

I'm still open to more ideas, but I would like to focus on the idea at hand.

Hi, If you are thinking of starting a forum then you can use vBulletin(not free) script or phpBB,SMF,MyBB(All free). But you will need some forum posters to kick start the forum as nobody will join an empty forum. Forum posters charge anywhere between $0.10-$0.50 per post. But I would advise you to start a blog. Hire 5-10 people from a city and tell them to report the happenings in that city every week. You can start the blog with Wordpress(all time favorite, Free as well). Grant them access as authors so that they can post regularly.

The reason I said blog is because a forum takes a long time to kick off. With a good template and promotion a blog is very profitable. You can use Social Media sites for blogs but I have never seen a forum post on social media site.
