I am looking for a shopping cart where i can name my own variables of for the products. Something like the site zappos.com would be amazing. I need a shopping cart where you can limit products by certain defined variables (IE. zappos has size, color, etc, etc) and keep on limiting the product down by these variables until you have found the one you want.

Does anyone know where i could find this? Also, if it were to be free that would be fantastic.

I would go with Magento. What you are referring to are called product attributes and just about every shopping cart available has them. Magento however will let you do everything that zappos does and likely a good bit more.

I am currently working on a few huge brand related jobs with Magento. If you want to poke around one of my development sites shoot me a pm and I can show you and explain a few things.

Magento is the best solution for your requirement. You can create as many attributes (variables) as you want and you can group them as "attribute set". If you are looking for high end E-commerce developer click on my signature link.

Thank You both. I'll look into Magento for my needs. Is the community edition sufficient for fairly basic functionality or must i invest in one of the more expensive versions?

Yep, community edition still beats the hell out of anything else.

I'll also prefer to use Magento as per your requirements and yes community edition will work well.

I would like to suggest , AJ Shopping cart which has multiple variable facility that you asked. Also it has more user friendly facility to make your online store more successful. Just give a try to AJ Shopping cart.

Try to look at Prestashop. It is not so well known, but it's amazing open source shopping cart.
