How does one build good adgroup history?

Do people really raise their bids alot and probably lose significant amount of money for a few weeks before they are able to actually get high positions at a lower cost?

    Or am I missing something?

First have a targeted keywords (in consist with all match types) related your business.

Bid high for the main keywords to bag the first postion in returns to gain clicks and for secondary keywords bid low.

And track the high bid keywords interms of CTR, ROI and Quality Score. If quality score is good then google automatically decrease your CPC eventhough you are in high position.

If not, just decrease the bid amount to 3 to 4 position and concentrate to increase the quality score.

    Thanks

Lower the CPC of keywords that are not performing well, or if CTR and conversions are VERY low for that particular keyword, remove it from the list. Then review your keyword list and add more specific ones. I always thought that if you have a combination of targeted, specific, good performing keywords, your Quality score is going to be higher than if you have a mix of good and low performing keywords... Only then when you have good performing keywords, you can increase CPC to reach higher :)
