Need advise with SSL on dedicated server with only one IP

I have a client that has 10 or so ecommerce sites and he want a shared SSL cert to run on all of his sites, i know very little about setting up SSL certs i have done it one before but it was a single root cert and i believe you can only have one certificate per ip address.

Where can i get a shared SSL cert that would work for all his domains on the one ip address?

Would i need to get more ip addresses or can i use just one?

Currently the dedicated server is running cpanel so i assume installing the cert would be relatively straight forward.

Would appreciate any help you can give as i really dont know where to start looking, im primarily a designer and dont really know much about server configurations etc.

    Regards.

You can purchase one certificate and have it shared across the whole server. Since it is a shared IP, it would be shared across the whole server. It's not as good as a dedicated ssl, and since he is doing e-commerce, I think he should invest in getting dedicated ssl's for each site.

It does require a dedicated IP, and you may have a shared package, but the server itself has a dedicated IP. So if the server itself has an SSL it would apply to all shared accounts. They share the dedicated IP and they share the SSL. It's better to have the shared account on it's own dedicated IP and have it's own SSL. To the customer, it feels more secure that way.

To the other person, I think Godaddy sells SSL certs, and accepts paypal.

I dont think i have got the point across yet.

    1. i have my own dedicated server with a single ip address
    2. i need to setup a shared SSL so that all sites hosted on my dedicated server can use a ssl cert (shared cert)
    3. i have no idea what i need to purchase or how to set it up.

My server is an unmanaged server running cpanel, any help would be greatly appreciated, i am sure there are other out there that have set something like this up before.

You never said you wanted it on the whole server, just for your clients 10 sites.

Did you see my above posts? You can do a shared cert for the entire server. You just need to purchase a certificate from somewhere and cpanel has an SSL certificate install function.

Another thought, since you run cPanel, and if you run linux, purchase server management through Platinum Server Management. They can help you do anything on the server and they are only $29 a month. They are excellent people to work with and I contract with them myself.

It seems you're new. Buy Management is what I can recommend, though I would like to help you to solve this problem.

But what I surely recommend to spend a mere $15 to get a ssl certificate from one of rapidssl resellers for his site(s).

Do not hesitate to contact me through PM and I'll help you to get the proble solved asap.(for free)
