Need advise on how to move a couple of positions

    Hi :)

The second site in my sig is position 3 in google for it's main keyword, but I would like to get it position 2 (one of course would be great, but 2 puts me immediately under the parks official site, i.e the first private rental site).

I don't want to post my competitors urls in the thread, (so please don't in your reply :)) but if you use the first word as the keyword you can see who my competitors are.

While mine is a relatively new site compared to the others, I have around 700 backlinks (way more than the site in position 2), I have also done article submission etc.

What else can I do to take over position 2:confused:

    Thanks in advance

    Dee

try submitting in classifieds and social bookmarking of course helps

You should try to get more backlinks with your primary keywords as you use in your signature.

    For example :

You should choose directory submission with your suitable titles with primary keywords.

    Article submission

I think if you will concentrate yourself for backlinks then you will get soon top position in SEs.

Because according to google.co.in you are in top and your competitor are down than you so you will get soon good position than your competitors.

    Thanks :)

Hi, thanks for your input :) I am currently doing all of the above, I guess it is just going to take time.

One thing seomanualsubmission you said "according to google.co.in you are in top and your competitor are down than you so you will get soon good position than your competitors".

But when I check google.co.in I am still position 3, not top?

Just do an on topic search for a blog. If you have money to spend then you can hire bloggers to write about your service. Just be careful to qualify the blogger so its a good site and not spammy.

Blog submission (aka blog comments) is a good suggestion - I was going to suggest it until I saw someone beat me to it :)

The best way to do it, which will have the most umph as far as pushing you up in the SERPs, is to search for your keywords and find the blogs covering the same niche. Google will give more relevance to links from sites related to your topic. This could be the push you need to move up that one position.

So you want to focus your blog comment efforts on blogs in your niche. When you find some make sure they aren't using the nofollow tag. The way to do that is to right-click on the page and view the source. If you are using Flock or Firefox right-click and choose 'View Page Source'. When you are looking at the page source press Ctrl-F (the find command) and type 'nofollow' without the quotes into the find box. If you don't find any instances of 'nofollow' that's a good blog to comment on.

Of course, you want to target blogs with high page rank first. Read the articles and post valuable comments. Then for an extra boost submit the blog post to social bookmarking sites.

Here is a great little free program that will help you find blogs to comment on: Real Link Finder. You type in your niche topic, it will go out and find blogs for you, it only shows you blogs that don't use the nofollow tag. This will make it soooo much easier (and faster) to find blogs to comment on.

But make sure you leave good, valuable comments. Google will look at the text in your comment (text near your link) and use it to determine what your site is about. So the better the comment, the more on-topic it is the better G understands what your site is about and can then rank you higher for on-topic searches. The same goes for the posts you choose to comment on, so that's why relevancy is important.

Hmmm, you do have a real tight niche you are targeting (nothing wrong with that just might make it hard to find related sites). You could do this as an alternative... your general niche is basically about holiday accommodation? Beach holiday accommodation more specifically (only took a quick look so I may be wrong).

So you could create a free blog at Wordpress.com on say, beach-holiday-accommodation or similar keywords. Write some more general articles on the topic, and then one or two articles on beach accommodation in your exact niche - linking those posts back to your site of course. This alone will be worth the effort as Wordpress.com ranks highly and gets indexed by Google quickly. So those will be some worthwhile links.

Then do a search with Real Link Finder on beach holiday accommodation or even just beach holidays or holiday accommodation and post comments with your wordpress.com blog as your website. The more you build up the Wordpress.com blog, the more you build up your site. You could do similar with a Blogger blog, livejournal etc. Actually you could have links to your site in relevant posts and also leave comments on these free blogs you have set up - in the event you can't find anyone with blogs on the topic.

Also I remember reading a case study somewhere, someone actually tested how much traffic they got in various SERP positions for the same site and keyword. They actually got more traffic when they were listed at position 2 or 3 (I can't remember exactly) than they did in the #1 position. Sorry this is kind of vague as I can't remember the exact details but I got the lesson (the moral of the story) that the results aren't always what you expect and the only way to know for sure is to test.

Hi donnam, no not beach accomodation, caravan holidays, caravans yorkshire, holidays Yorkshire etc, but there really doesn't seem to be blogs that cover this area, I may have to do as you suggested and start my own.

Hi lightlysalted, yes that is what I have been trying to do, but as I said above I can't find any blogs offering free posting in my niche, I have been doing some social bookmarking too.

I guess moving that final place or 2 is just going to take time, and continued work, as I am doing all the usual things

You know that doesn't surprise me at all - my eyes tend to avert straight to the middle results, it usually comes down to which sites have the most relevant title between #2-#4 for what I'm looking for.

There are threads on here where you can buy links and blog posts. You can also check out sponsoredreviews.com to hire bloggers. You can also set google alerts for your key term and they will email you daily with anything that shows up under your key term.
