Hi there Folks am planning to convert one of my PHPLD Directory to a Site-Sift sooner!! Do you think it is advisable to do that? while its over a 5 months old site with PR 2 and more than 800 pages Indexed in Google! this puts some questions in my mind too, i.e will i have to re-establish all the categories or the same database would work with Site-Sift!? secondly how would i export the currently listed(only few of the sites) to it!!! but still first priority is , is it advisable to do so???
If you think the Site Sift script will suit your needs better then sure go for it. What I would do is set it up on a spare domain somewhere and import all of the data, categories, a few of the links etc. Based off this you can then create a map of both sites and create some 301 redirects. That will ensure Google and co are taken care of when they come to crawl you after you have finished the switch over. HTH
you were doing good with that script, leave it as is and buy a new domain and start a sitesift with it and make a comparison.
Yes its not advisable to do that.. You will loose all pageranking, SERPs etc.. Again the database will not be same - so you might need to add those listings manually.. Instead create a new SS directory on a new domain
Why would he loose the PR, are the scripts that different that it's not possible to set up the same category structure in both? And no, I have not used Site Sift, hence the question.
Well changing that so that the site structure is the same wouldn't be too difficult... but the OP has already informed me that he is not very technical in which case I would say to go with wwws suggestion.
I have no idea how much work it would be but I'm a woman so I won't let that little detail stop me from giving my opinion. Since your directory is doing well as it is, why not leave it alone and just start a new one with SiteSift? Surely you can handle two directories and it might be fun to compare the two as you build them.
IF you find someone who can do this, and do a good, job, send me a PM, I have a few directories, that I would like converted.
Actually i just checked and it has over 996 pages indexed to google but despite alot of submissions and a few good links i bought it managed to get PR 2 only from thye previous PR 1 it had when i did no promo for it at all. I've seen a new Site-Sift trend this update and some that i know on DP here say that Site-Sift is easy to get you a good PR with not "too much" effort as compared to PHPLD so i thought maybe if i could do the switch over from now on it would be good to see the results now that the PR update is very far away! Since i am not techy and have not much experience with the Redirects and Database management stuff i think i'll better stick with wwws 's suggestion on leaving it as it is , since the directory structure is all different!!! BUT i am surely going to try Site-Sift on one of my new good domains that i own! Thanks all for the suggestions!
Thanks Kushal for that wonderful Post. Unfortunately right now there is someone developing a converter from PHPLD to Site Sift. A one good Script for you to watch is PHPLynx wich wont even have a problem converting PHPLD to PHPLynx and we are contracted to make templates for them too. Thanks Kushal.
Do you mean there is or there isn't? Besides any idea as to when will the PHPLynx script available? or is it currently available?
Please explain why it is risky. Anyway, it's simple enough to do a backup before conversion so you can put everything back the way it was if you run into trouble.
I personally dont fear that i'll loose the links, its only populated with 12 links!!! the fear i had was, would the same category structure work with Site-Sift ? Answer was NO, Secondly would my indexed pages be the same as they are after the switch over (that would surely be only and only if i keep the same links Structure) but So? No conversion until a CONVERTER is released that would gimme what i require, no plans to convert it now though!
