Our site is 80% complete, and we've had to bring another company on board to finish it up for reasons out of our control. The new company wants to code in PHP rather than .net. What would you advise to do? I really appreciate your help.

This is up to yours site. Noramally for a small site PHP is bettter , but if the site is big have many facilities and security think use asp.net, its better and secured

Financially it doesn't make sense for a start. If this company can't do it then look elsewhere.

Definately doesn't make sense to go with PHP now that it's 80% done.

why was a company brought in that wanted to start afresh after 80% of the work is done i think is the bigger question?

Wouldnt touch PHP with anyones barge pole and would certainly have serious doubts about a company that not only promotes PHP above .Net but to the extent that they say to scrap 80% of a site.

Of cause, if you have brought them in on a fixed contract with a deadline with penalty clauses for breaching the deadline you can let them do what they want - they may end up paying you for doing the job ;)

    hey,
i really dont think you should start over in php for 2 reasons,
    1. 80% of the work was done.
even due coding in php is much faster and i bet that company can catch up really quick, still, most of the work is done allready...
    2. .net is used for web application, unless your website is a simple site, or a community site, i dont find any reason to move to open source language (php), instead of programming in a well known (by the market and clients) language.

i have a question: did you hire a project manager for this ?
if you didnt, and you try to handle it with no knowledge,
its a pitty, since most of the chances are you will be "ripped off"
since you do not actually know what can/can't be done,
how much time and resources it will waste etc.

got lots more to say about this subject,
but i dont want to sound like "mom" :)

    gl.
