need advice

i am looking to get started with running my own site. something along the lines of what youtube has going. can anyone give me advice on the do's and dont's? i want the site to bring in some money each month. but i am new to the whole advertising area. hosting for the site wont be a problem for me since i have a dedicated at my disposal. but what else do i need to know before jumping into this? thanks in advance for any advice

 

Don't host the files on your server. That's the biggest don't for that type of site.

 

So you have your own dedicated server already?

 

The only reason you'd need a dedicated server for this type of site is to handle the amount of traffic that will bombard your site.

 

so if i dont host them on the server then where do i host them?

For Making That Kind Of Site You Need Very Heavy Server Because These Kind Of Servers Consumes very Bandwidth .....

Simply link to them. Hosting them on your server will cause your site to get shut down and you to get sued.

some server dont have any ability to hold that such of files..

 

You will need a big infrastructure.. and filters.. etc etc.

Database to store the files... pointer to links to the file... filter to ensure that the stuff getting posted are legal and ability to determine if it's adult or not..

You will probably need lawyers as well now that the companies and jumping on the 'SUE YOU' cause someone posted copyright stuff on your server and you let it happen...

 

thanks everyone for you input. so its pretty much decided that the files arent going to be hosted on the server lol since i dont want to be sued. well anyway next step. how do i make money from it?

 

Running ads would be the first step.

 

I dont know much about this whole adsense or whatever everyone is talking about. could you explain a little more into detail?
