    Hi,

does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get a forum off the ground?

I'll be creating some users by signing up with all my email accts. and starting some threads? I'll also start some as the administrator.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Wait… you are going to manually fake accounts and then pretend they started the thread? Then make the one of the fake accounts administrator? :D

Promote the site and recruit new users... Advertise.

Post a lot of useful topics, and promote a lot. Buy ad space if possible.

I started mine with a few friends in highschool. I think its best to have maybe 3 or 4 people you know personally and discuss things on the site rather than through IM.

Its VERY difficult to jump start a forum IMO

I would suggest you to post useful topics, advertise, find some forum posters (you pay for people to post on your forum, its usually $5 for 20 posts and 5 threads...)

There are several ways you can do so. You can get a lot of help here: http://www.adminfuel.com

I spreading the word of your forum across the internet to your target audience.. one of the best ways :)

Of course there is the more simple forums. And that is to do post exchanges to link exchanges from similiar or relevant sites. As well as higher some posters for .10 - .25 cents.

There is also a software that you can install if you have either a VB or invision(I think). I remember both are the paid version. But it is an automated version that will ask questions or respond to some. Some of the responses/questions can be one liners that are brief. I do believe it can give you up to something like 5k to 10k worth of questions/responses. And at a fraction of the cost of paid posting forums.

Edit: Found it. It was actually from a former DP mod who blogged about the software. His name was/is Top30. Hasnt been around since June or July of last year. But here is the link to his Blog posting about the software. Just to let you know it took awhile for the page to load though. But just do a refresh.

The software that Top30 talked about is called ICo-Content

I cant remember the name of the software at the moment. But I think it was GuyFromChicago who is a mod who put the software up his blog. But somehow I cant find it or not do the proper keyword for it to find it on his blog. But anyways. Good luck.
