Need Advice on General Website

    I was planning to make general website. I need to know how hard it is to promote a general website? Do you have any success with general website?

    No, it's not hard to promote Web sites. What do you mean by "general Web sites?" What is the Web site you are thinking of making about? Whatever it is, make sure you will have an audience for it.

    maybe he means a website for all occasion, for all ages, for everyone..that's what I get from the word general..

    When you build a site, you #1 need to think about what key words will drive traffic to it. That is how searchs engines work... think about SERPs. Generic sites are usually hard to promote because they do not focus on what key words drive traffic from search engines. That said, there are other ways to promotes generic sites, like email, articles, backlinks .. all of which take effort and a strategy.

    I am assuming you are talking about a static html website when you say general? These are not hard to promote, although they tend to be a little harder than sites that have dynamic content unless you intend to update regularly.

    Good,and you mean you are so professional at it?I'm afraid I don't stand on
    the same point with you.Maybe it's so difficult for me promote my website.
    I have to consider the invest and make a ideal budget.What's more,there's
    full of competition in my area.So it's really not an easy thing for me get big
    success.I think it's also the common problem many webmasters will face.

    That's a much better term, a generic website. That is what I'm thinking too on what keyword should I will use on my index page. Or should I use another folder for another topic on my site?
    eg.
    myexample. com/events
    myexample. com/sports

    May be you're meaning a portal type of website when you say 'general' or 'generic' website. But what success do you anticipate given that the most competitive and fruitful niches like fashion, style, etc are already dominated by major players?

    I still think this conversation is getting off point as most traffic on the web is keyword driven. Promoting sites is all about SERPs.
