Need advice on buying 'owned' domains

I'm about to embark on a project for which I need a keywordkeyword domain. In terms of the niche, all the .com domains are gone but the rest of the extension are available.

I'm planning on investing a reasonable amount in this project so I would like to start with a .com.

So, the question is how to best approach the purchase of one of the many possibilties of .com names. I tried a similar approach with a different niche and the owner wanted $xxxx, even though he'd only registered a week before (I'd been looking and couldn't quite decide whether it would just gather dust as another unused domain).

    - Do I go for the 'planning a project in this niche' enquiry
    Or

    - A Simple, How Much?

What strategy will help me get the domain (assuming someone is willing to sell) at the most reasonable price.

    Any ideas?

I would try asking first if he or she is willing to sell the domain, then if the answer is no come with an effor to see how much no means "NO".

PM me the niche you're looking for and I'll give you some ideas on how to find free (available) domains pertaining to your keyword.
