Need advice monetizing my art and toy website

I've been using shareasale primarily for my website, Opportunity LOL. I have made $30 over 9 months. I tried out Google Adsense, and made ~$10 with fairly prominent ads. I dropped those ads b/c I was getting incongruent ads on the top of my website,
which took a lot away from the look.

I get a minimum of 500 pageviews/day. Today I'm at 800 pageviews by 9:30pm. I'm making close to no money with the website, and it's a bit frustrating.

What am I doing wrong? I switched domains (massive number of problems with old site from duplicate content to being punished for selling links b/c I didn't nofollow to heavily linking companies reviewed to the point it all looked like spam - I'm 2/3rds way through moving all content over with correct SEO) and am immediately at 500 pageviews because I have a facebook page with just under 300 fans and 42k followers on twitter. I redid all the unique content articles (130 by now) and am producing roughly 1-2 articles/day of a pretty high quality b/c I hired an editor for all the stuff that isn't a game guide or me just blogging toys.

I'm not looking to find out how I can get more people to the site, but instead to learn why I'm making nearly 0 money from ads other than the ones I sell. I improved my ad placement to putting something on the top of the page, and I dropped all but two widgets (newsletter sign-up and flickr group I run).

Thank you for your advice in advance!
