    Hi all

I have a forum and was thinking of buying some domain names to link to this one forum.

So is it wise to get a domain name with a keyword that has over 246,000 a month? or a keyword with less searches? to me it would seem sense in buying a domain name with a keyword that is searched more, but unsure as if it would work like that?

Also is it wise to have more than one domain name to point to one forum? say 2 - 3?

    Thanks
    Steve

    Hey Steve,

Choose a keyword with the least competition but high in searches..

I believe thats what most people do You can use google adwords keyword tool to help you out more :)

Ah right so if a keyword ( the domain name ) has lol competition but high searches then grab it? would it harm my forum if i bought say another 2 keyword domain names and point it to my existing forum ( domain ) i have? so in theory they will be 3 domain names to one forum in total?

    Thanks
    Steve

If you have three new domains with no authority, no links pointing back to them, not much content and all hosted on the same server, they are unlikely to help your forum. Better use for your effort would be to set up pages on squidoo, hub pages and blogger that point to your forum.

I am saying NOT to get the domain names and build sites, as to do so would not be useful.
It would also NOT be useful to register domains and redirect them to your forum.

Ok well here is my problem, the domain name i have for my forum at the moment i have just ran the keywords through google keywords and it has no competition and no monthly global searches so i feel this isnt doing anything seen as though no searches are been made.

My thinking was to buy a domain name that has a good keyword ( related to my forum ) that has low competition but 246.000 searches every month and point it to my domain name i have now.

Would this really harm my forum or domain name i have now?

So to build traffic to my forum and for people to find me in google when they do a search would it just be best to rename the forum ( domain name )?

Just need to find what will help my forum.

You can always buy a domain name with some of your keywords. Lets say you are an affiliate marketing forum. Having a domain like myaffililatemarketingforum.com wouldn't hurt. "Affiliate Marketing" would be considered your seed keyword. It's in your domain and that is good for ranking purposes, but it won't autmatically make you superior to other forums that don't have the words "affiliate marketing" in the url.

If you want to get to the top of google, I suggest finding 6-7 longtail keywords that add up to 3,000 or more EXACT LOCAL searches each month. A longtail keyword word include your seed keyword plus extra words.

    EX. "Affiliate Marketing Secrets"
    "Successful Affiliate Marketing online"
    "make money affiliate marketing"

Now, If you want to learn HOW to properly choose the right LT keywords, that is tough! If you want to, PM me for more details!

edit: and the reason you go for the small search volumes is because it's much easier to get to the top of google, assuming those sites who are ranked #1 for the specific longtail keyword have bad SEO. Once you get to #1 you can expand your keywords and start fighting for bigger keywords!

make sure your domain name has less than 70 characters and has lots of searches but low competitions. You can use tricks for example, if your targeting online casino and since online casino is already taken try casinoonline or casiono-online or casino-online- etc, so basically you break the domain name.

I would agree with two differences. I'd say to keep the name below 30 characters, and don't use more than one hyphen.
