I have a website and part of the contract with the web-developing company were 2 domain names for $xx per year. are those domain names belong to me or the developer can do what ever he wants with them or take them back?! after searching the web I also noticed that these domains are being offered for sale!! can they do that?? I'm paying for it about $50 a year(2 domains). I can probably sign a contract with the owner for few years right?! would that secure my domain name? would it matter if I will buy the same name with .net extension? also, legal question, my domain owner is the web developing company on the web developing contract it also mentioned that the company(web developers) will provide the domain names, isn't it make me the owner of the domain? if in the contract the web developer refers to my company as (mydomain).com isn't it also committing them to give me first rights on the domains?
These are questions that you should have asked before you sent then any money. Their terms of service should explain exactly what you get for your money. I would never use a domain name without knowing that I owned it and could control it.... When I used to build sites, the name belonged to the person that hired me.... Buying another extension will not change anything (disclaimer...I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advise)
Thanks for your response Jim, When I've decided to go and build a website I had only the idea, I didn't know much about the internet business. now that the website is almost done there's a lot of questions that floats up and makes me worry about the future of this website, especially after finding out the web developer is not the most reliable person. my name was on whois.com as the owner for the first year but not anymore and am just worried that I am going to lose it.
In the term of service in the contract I have signed with them it says that they are responsible to provide me with these 2 specific domains.
