I am looking to put my search box up on various directories, would prefer home pages but will take good placement on submit pages too. How much would I have to offer to get it up on some high traffic directories? I would prefer directories with 200+ visitors a day.

You can see an example of the search box in the home page column on www.SearchingTech.com and on the submit page http://www.searchingtech.com/submit.php

I did post a WTB thread here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=244712

    thanks

Tbh i think its going to be a little confusing... in the majority of cases directories already have search boxes integrated in the design and coding of the site. Adding another search box will simply confuse users. Additional you need to consider where you want the search box positioned - in the majority of cases directories owners are only able to offer text or banner links on the index (and other) pages. Perhaps you need to consider buying text and banner links that advertise the search tool that you are promoting.

Im some what interested in the purpose of this search box as well... why would i use it when i could just go to google and view the same results which are much, much easier to read... it doesn't make that much sense.

    Best of luck.

Google pays you when you put their search box in your website when ever someone searches...Bu I think it stinks to have the google searchbox on a website when they are all over my browsers. I have Google, MSN, Yahoo. I never use the searchboxes on a website to search outside of it, I use whats on the browsers.

I guess I should explain it a little better. The search box is a custom google search box and would be specifically geared towards finding SEO Friendly Web Directories. Here is the site http://dirsearches.googlepages.com/

It would be a specialized search box for users to find other directories.

Sounds like the custom search engine where Google allows people to restrict the sites searched.

Yes YMC, exactly. Here is how I described it to someone I was purchasing space from, this is the bennifit to them in addition to the fee paid.

"It is a google co-op search box, meaning I have some control over what shows, if I list a site it gets higher SERPs or I can ban sites so they won't show at all.

I use this option "Search the entire web but emphasize included sites."

Your site will be emphasized on all sites using this search box (not just your own)."

So, you are hoping the site owner will allow you to buy banner space to offer your custom search engine.

The benefit to the site owner being a known cash flow from you via your paid placement vs the unknown cash flow of having their own Google custom search?

    Interesting concept.

Yes, that is pretty much my idea.

I have created a google page for my custom search and have submited it to 100's of directories and am buying links to increase back links and promote searches. Besides that I will also be spending a lot of time tweeking it for positive results for my directories and they ones I advertise on. So there is a benifit to the owners of the directories beyond my monthly payment.

So far I have purchased 4 spots and hope to purchase another 6 for this trial. I will probably blog my results on one of my webmaster blogs.
