It is really a very good idea to have a own blog. Have a very good content in order to get more visits and also get the more clicks on the adsense of your blog page.
If you wish to be really successful, another blog likely won't get you far. Post regularly, stick to a posting schedule. Don't look for traffic statistics for the first few months. Don't look to make money for the first few months, focus towards posting quality. Promote your blog using the right keywords for SEO (decide the keywords first before going to blog).

running a blog takes a lot of commitment. that's prob the first tip i can give u. loads of time, but in the end, it can pay off
Make your blog informative with the niche it is, Update it with quality content so that google & general visitors like it. Start commenting on related blogs. submit your blog to directories & social media. i hope it will start making some profit sooner
