Hi everyone- I wanted to talk about and get your feedback about a directory that I will be launching soon. in 1997 I purchased a domain, which I'm going to keep secrect for the time being, for a specific city like www.citystate.com (Example: www.chicagoillinois.com). Since 1997 this site has had some organic links obtained but not a ton. I plan to add the domain in a subfolder of the root domain, i.e. www.domain.com/directory. At first, I will be the only editor and if it becomes more than I can handle, I may add more editors. This will not be a "everyone gets approved" directory. There will be a fee for inclusion. Ok, so here's what advice I'm looking for: How much should the review fee be? We are currently planning to charge $49 for review and inclusion. I've been contacted by a few SEO folks who have requested to be first on the list for inclusion. If I end up getting more interest than I can handle I will have no option but to increase the review cost. If you want to get on the list for first inclusion just PM me you email. I expect the directory to be live in the next week or two. I will email you once its live and give the first 100 entries a 50% off code. Thanks again for your help.
First all the best and good luck. ( 14 Year Old Domain ) ( planning to charge $49 for review ) where we are now ! Need to launch your directory and what the search engines will index from it ! What will be your PR . The age is not for the domain its for the real active on the Internet .
1) What is your page rank of the domain? Page Rank sells like crazy. If they don't have a decent page rank, you will not have much traction if your directory is paid. 2) Directory on a sub-folder! Not recommended. 3) Content, Content, Content -> Add listings on a daily basis, have clean and original content. This will attract search engines like crazy. 4) Be a good editor, by adding category and sub-category tree. Unique taxonomy is really worth. 5) I would suggest you start the directory in the main domain, free (If it is less than PR 3) and then upgrade to paid as PR improves. You can always have a featured listing with few bucks that will offer guaranteed review with additional exposure etc.,
I don’t really see you needing an editor if you’re looking to charge $49 for a review, some of the top directories change less. What will I be getting in return for my money? Good luck. Thanks Brian
