Need a Text Editor for a Mac

    Hi there,

I've recently switched from PC to Mac. The HTML/PHP/SSI files etc were all done on Notepad with my PC and when I try to open them with the Text Editor that comes with my Macbook, it often opens the actual page with images and stuff rather than just the code. This makes editing the code impossible.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a free or cheap program that will allow me to edit these files with my Mac.

    Thanks!
    Kirsty

The industry standards for editing code files are Emacs and Vim. Both are free and both are available for Macs. They both may seem like overkill if you're used to using notepad, but you'll find that their features, like syntax highlighting, can be very useful. Of the two, I suggest Emacs for html editing.

Using the Mac and the TextEdit program open your file 'with all the images and stuff' then go to the FORMAT menu, locate 'Make Plain Text' and that should remove all the images just leaving the text.

Panic Coda. The best application I've ever used for building websites. It costs a little but it's well worth it.
