I am looking for the same but with a free and paid membership option.
I have found This site that has this script that, too me at least, looks pretty good but I dont know a great deal about them. Anyone had any dealings with them or know if the script is worth the $99 ?

I have to say that I would never trust a script that is being sold for $99. If you don't care about the scalability of the script, then go ahead and purchase it.

What I think so many people ignore is that the best thing a piece of software can have going for it is the COMMUNITY SUPPORT around it. I am a part of the phpFoX community forum. Now, people in the forums don't lie (most of the time). They, for the most part use the forum as a meeting of the minds. There are HUNDREDS of modifications and solutions that the community has come up with. Most of the time people call me just to ask me if there is such a modification out there. The great thing is that instead of have to pay someone a couple hundred dollars to create a mod, someone has already created it and it only costs $15 to add to the website.

The community support, criticisms etc, are what makes a script come alive and get better. I like phpFoX because of the community. Sure it is $300. Sure the support isn't perfect. But you know what, someone in the community will help you out if you ask. That is the key. The community makes the script stronger.

    Cheers peeps,
    Brian

    Thanks for that Bryan.
I have to agree, the one thing thats putting me off is the lack of any community.
Apart from that I am realy hooked on this script as it has everything I am looking for.
I cant forsee me requiring any major mods for the V3 script allthough I know that may be a tad shortsighted.

    Thanks agin...

    Mark

You can use an opensource application and get it modified. I heard ecademy.com is built on Drupal. This is also built on Drupal; itvidyaDOTcom

I really like the ecademy site but I cringe when I hear the word Drupal as I've not had a whole lot of success with it.

Thinking about phpfox but I want something unique looking...Does anyone know how easy it is to customize the look of phpfox?

im not sure if i have to agree with u for 100%, but some time ago, i had installed boonex on one of my servers to test it, and it gave errors, i might have been me not setting things up good, but i have done these sorts of things 100000000000 times and only boonex was a hard one, i couldnt find the solutions.
plus i know a NL site (suonline.nl) who used to be build with boonex, after the launch of the website, within 3 weeks, there was a mass mail that the site had errors and shortly after that they changed the software, and now its build with vb bulletin................

    maybe u are 100% right.

    hey guyz
I believe no one should pay boonex for ad free removal
before you install it you need to delete a few codes that tells boonex about your account your sql uid and pwd
I am working on all the changes that need to be made before and after. if it's gpl it should be free.

very Good choice. Of the current PHP social networking scripts today cuurent as of 12/Nov/2010, PHPFOX is one of the best of them all. Good choice ndivura. But i will also be writing and posting a review of the best PHP social networking scripts on the net today. I will list several review points to include such features as value for money, quick page upload, ergonomic features /ease of use, system resource requirements, features of modules, maturity of coding, etc. So watch this page.
