    Hello summer,

    I'll leave the SEO to the experts here that know much more than I do.
    One suggestion I would make is to work on optimizing your images - the file size on them is quite large and your total page download time suffers.

    Here is an example of an optimized home button - 640 bytes

    [IMG]

    Here is your original image which is 31,345 bytes

    [IMG]

    No real difference in quality but much faster to download - just think - these really add up.

    Hope this helps a little.

    * get the javascript off the page
    * use a stylesheet so you don't need code like
    <td width="25" bgcolor="#333333" align="center"><font face="Arial, Arial, Helvetica"> or
    <a href="http://www.hustlerpanties.com/categories.php" onMouseOut="MM_swapImgRestore()" onMouseOver="MM_swapImage('Lingerie Button','','images/rolllingerie.png',1)"><img src="images/lingerie.png" name="Lingerie Button" width="150" height="24" border="0"></a>

    * use some <h1> <h2> tags around the place

    I sooo need to go for a run. I hate those chicks!

    I assume you put your menu down the right side intentionally. I would be interested to know why. Across the top or down the left side is far more traditional.

    As far as SEO goes I have on word only, "backlinks". Read the McDar Thread on this forum. How can you have any doubt what is needed to for SEO?

    The only on page item I would change is your title. Determine your prime keyword and put it first in your title. Dump the "welcome" that is just a pure waste of a valuable resource. Get rid of the ".com". Who searches on that?? Think of the title like your longest and single most important anchor text.

    So, today I sat down at my computer, got all pumped and ready to optimize my images, opened Fireworks (The program I've been using to create the images), and realized....I have no idea how to do this in Fireworks! I'm sorry for sounding so ditzy, but I've just recently started using, and learning, Fireworks...Does anyone know where I would go to size-down my images?!

    Um...Duh...

    Thanks, Sarahk! I will put those things on my list of things to learn...Unfortunately, I don't even know what a stylesheet is yet...hehe. What would be the benefits of removing the javascript and using a stylesheet? Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it
    :) !

    A stylesheet helps to remove html code from your page and can make your page load up to 3x faster than with old fashioned html. That means there's more room for a *bit* of bloat on your images - and you rely on images.

    The javascript also gets cached, that means that the visitors computer knows not to download it over and over, again loading the page more quickly.

    From Googlebot's point of view it doesn't have to trawl over complicated html to get to the stuff it needs. It gets you juicy content (literally in this case) more easily, meaning more of the page will be indexed, more links found and therefore a better chance of ranking well.

    Shawn and the gurus who hang here will be able to teach you lots of tricks but the basics are
    * use a stylesheet
    * keep javascript in a separate file
    * use H1-5 tags
    * optimise your images - in Adobe Photoshop there is a utility to "save for web" which is great.

    In all the debates over ethical SEO etc you'll never see anyone contesting these points.

    Hi Compar, Well, one reason my menu is down the right side is because I don't do anything traditionally
    :D . As a matter of fact I do most things backwords...For example: I got a website, then decided to learn how it works. My website is not my original design (reason two, my menu is on the right), I bought a template (because I am by no means a website designer), then taught myself Dreamweaver/Fireworks and tweeked it to my liking. The only "class" I've taken regarding webdesign is a book I bought 5 years ago called "HTML for Dummies". So, I know the basics, but a lot of things are still over my head.

    ANYHOW, enough about how much I don't know :rolleyes: ...Thanks for the suggestions! I'm constantly working on getting backlinks & I've changed the title on my site (I kept meaning to do that, I swear :D ).

    Haha...
    Thanks Sarahk, That helps a lot. I've used the "save for web" feature in Phototshop before, so perhaps I'll just do that instead of using Fireworks.

    p.s. You know those anklet socks you love so much? They're one of my best sellers this month...haha...Who would of thought?

    LOL.... no worries - we ALL have learning curves at some point or another. :D
    OK... I use PSP7 for my graphics work so I can not offer specific steps as to how to implement changes in Fireworks but....... here are a few basic guidelines.

    The image I took from your site was in .png format
    I reduced the color depth to 16 colors and saved in .gif format
    Simple images like your nav buttons do not require 1000's of colors - so the .gif format with 16 colors (or even 256 colors) is more than satisfactory as you can see - not to mention the savings in file size.

    On images that require greater color depth and detail (like photos) then the .gif format is probably not the best choice. In this case, use a .jpg format and compress the image to an acceptable level. I would think that Fireworks has a utility that allows you to view different levels of compression??

    Play around with it some and remember to SAVE AS so as not to change the format of your original image.

    Hope this gets you started.

    Use the Export Wizard in Fireworks. After you save the .png file you are editing, go to:

    - file
    - export wizard

    It will walk you through and help you decide which format would work best for you. Then it will export the new file format to your site's directory.

    summer...

    i still see you are using that medium gray and dark pink text on the hot pink background.
    ...not a high-contrast combination.
    the grannies are gonna be straining their eyes big-time to read that text and it may prevent them from selecting the right size thongs or something.

    :eek:

    Okay, I THINK I downsized my images (at least the rollover navigation buttons). Anyone want to check it out and see if they are loading faster? http://www.hustlerpanties.com

    They still seem to loading a little slow for me. Keep in mind I do have a 3mbps connection, so my idea of "slow" is probably fast for most others.
