    Hi folks,

I've been searching DP and the net for quite some time now but I haven't made up my mind on which one to buy. I'm leaning towards Gripsell but can you provide me some feedback about it? what's the best out there with good tech support?

Also, what I'm looking for the groupon script are below:

    - Can show multiple deals on the home page.
    - Remove cities
    - Vouchers will be sent thru email or can be viewed at the site.
    - Ndot deal's paypal option is very good (Use credit card with paypal) - see this groupon.ndot.in/purchase.html?cid=51

Appreciate your help on this. Thanks

You could just use a forum software to get you started. Advertise to business to go on there and offer quantity discounts if enough people sign on then have them post a discount code. Pretty simple really, just find a forum plugin that allows you to charge for certian levels of membership. Make it so membership levels allowed to start new threads need to have certain permissions available to paying members.

This is really about marketing more then anything. You will need to market this to business people in order to convence them it is worth it to pay for a membership. Thing is your not going to get these business people to pay unless you have lots of people on your site already so you got the checken and the egg paradox. Go forth and figure out how to solve that. In a few years after you get all this activity built up on your forum then you can afford to pay for a custom written program that operates more like an exact copy of groupon. Got to warn you though, people are starting to catch on that groupon is just a scam. 99% of everything on there is not really based on group buying just group idiots convinced they are getting some kind of a deal when after all they are paying the same sale price as any one who comes through the door

I'll try not to be biased here since my company provides group buying software!

You basically have two implementation choices:

    • Off the shelf, self hosted software
    • Platform, software as a service

There are benefits and drawbacks to each. For example a software as a service solution (SaaS) like zuupy will allow you to get setup for free but will charge you a monthly fee after the first month. Another SaaS model like dealcoop will be free to setup but take a percentage of each transaction. Obviously the benefits here are that the setup costs and ongoing costs are either low or linked to your performance. The drawback is that you are very limited to the kind of customization you can do, you can't make any layout changes, you are confined to the features that the service provides and if the provider goes bankrupt it's highly likely you will lose your site.

Then you have off the shelf software. Virtually all the providers in this category are from India. Why? Because we are able to create this very complex software and sell it at a price that's not possible in other countries. The benefits are that you get full access to make any changes, can customize as much as you want and never have to pay any ongoing fees once the initial purchase is made. The biggest drawback is that these providers are trying to create a flexible solution that works on any server setup and bringing in 3rd party integration things tend to take time to make everything work properly. We bang our heads trying to figure out how ABC feature works on our demo and for all our other clients but doesn't work for a specific client.

I could go on with the benefits and drawbacks of both models, but I won't bore you too much!

    Thanks,

    Peter

This is great. If I have a partner to handle a marketing thing like your, i would build it from scratch. It would take up to three months full time working to finish. But it's faster if you use framework.

I've had a terrible experience with Agriya.

In total I have spent €2950 with Agriya for my daily deals site to include design work and full integration to my server so that I would have a full functioning, working site which was ready to launch. I received other quotes from daily deal clone providers ranging from $400 to $1000 but I was prepared to pay above the norm based on the promises and claims made by Agriya that I would receive a much higher standard site.

Having received my deals site it was immediately evident that quite a number of errors existed. I communicated these errors to Agriya and was dismayed to find that the technical support and backup promised from Agriya just did not exist. Very few of these errors were amended and the process of trying to communicate with Agriya was incredibly frustrating. In fact there seem to have been no internal communication within Agriya either.

As I was making no progress
with Agriya in terms of getting errors on the site fixed I decided to find a local company to do the fixes for me. After having several companies locally have a look at the site I was shocked to find out that the majority of them did not want to go near the site. The general feedback was that the script for the site was so confusing and outdated that they couldn't possibly make sense of it. For instance, I was advised that the way Agriya had written the script meant a simple command might involve several lines of coding whereas with more up to date/ modern coding it would only take one line.

After much exploration of my options the outcome has been that I have had to have the site built again from scratch by a local company. The cost of this stands to equal the amount I have already spent with Agriya. Not only have I wasted quite a large sum of money, I have wasted several months trying to resolve these issues since Agirya handed over my supposedly 'completed' site, not to mention the associated stress and frustration.

I have asked for some compensation from Agriya given that the site delivered to me was not as promised - it was not to a working standard, and no effort was made by Agriya to ensure that the errors were corrected. Unsurprisingly my complaints and request have been met with indifference from Agriya.

It seems they clone the look, not the code.

    Hi Yohann,

Gripsell is a groupon clone with advanced features that are yet to be included by most other scripts. You might want to check our new demo at demo424s.gripsell.com. New version is releasing on Nov 15

Please see below the answers for your queries

In Gripsell Adv script, you can make deal zone or deal map page the first landing page by changing just one line of code.

You can manage cities [add/delete/edit] from admin panel > cities link. You might want to check admin panel demo. see this url for login details gripsell.com/gripsell-daily-deals-group-buying-script/demo/

Old versions of Gripsell Adv used to send vouchers in email. Then, we deprecated it after multiple emails from customers who want buyers to login to view/print coupon. This is purely for security reason. Current version send notification for availability of coupon [when deal is tipped]. When you gift a deal to a non-registered user, temporary profile is created automatically and details are included in the email notification

We learnt from our customers that Paypal no longer issues "Pro" account to daily deals websites. We recommend that you check with Paypal as well. If you already have pro account and want to use it with your daily deals website, we will integrate this module for free

Write us at or visit us at gripsell.com for more details

    Regards
    Gripsell

If anyone knows a groupon clone script, standalone or for joomla, drupal, wordpress - who is not made by indians, nepal, vietnam or similar countries, without any transaction fees or monthly payments and also with a decent price, please share. It should have this features groupdealsplugin.com/features/ - the features in this example are ok but the software is very expensive, no matter the subscription you go for. Also it seems pretty much abandoned if you check the blog, release notes etc

If you can't post here a links to demos or you company page than it is clear to me that it is either a scam, a bugy script etc. So no, thank you.

If support period is not yet over, gripsell will try to fix issues that you'll encounter with the script however after support period is over, they won't help you anymore unless you pay again for support extension. Gripsell script has lots of bugs and if you don't know anything about php or web programming, you need to hire a someone to make the script work. There is a manual for installation only but for the error or bugs that you'll encounter after installing the script, no manual for this. They do have patches on client download but there is not much explanation on what it's for or how to do it. If they have an update on the script, they don't notify their previous customers right away that there is an update. They should learn that inorder for them to sell more script, they should provide good customer service and great product (bug free).
