Just curious as to how where you guys prefer to put your navigation menu's on your sites. I prefer to have it on the right (article links) and adsense to the left with the text wrapped to the right of the box. So.... your navigation - right or left? Mike
Depends on the site *but* having adsense on the left increases CTR (see G's heatmap @ http://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/static.py?page=tips.html) It's worth experimenting with diff nav placement to see how it affects pageviews, CTR, etc I personally like nav on the right or top
I just follow the majority - which at the moment is top of and left of the page. I do this because most websites are like this, and so most users are used to using websites laid out like that - which makes my websites easier to use. Most common comment about the websites I make 'it's so easy to use'
For two reasons I always have mine on the right. 1) My skyscraper ads do better on the left. 2)I found that with a top menu my site descriptions in MSN search results always listed the menu before the description.(This was probably just my site as I don't see it anywhere else) I did read somewhere though that it was good to have a top menu for site crawling (dunno if it's true).
Hmm, I'm thinking about testing without a navigation menu on the right or left, and only at the bottom. Skyscraper on the left, and then a block on the right with text wrapped around the left side.
I waited to long to be able to edit my post. When I see Adsense tower on left I see site as spammy site and go elsewhere. I do not like MFA sites. Shannon
I'm with you, navigation on top and ads on left..skyscraper on the left side is more noticeable than the leaderboard on top since we read from left to right..
I think the majority of uses like it on the left but the argument for having it on the right is that it is easier for people using laptops to move from the scroll bar to the navigation, my site is on the right.
I think is better to have the menu on the left because a lot of visitors do not have the window at full size especially if they are surfing from work. They just keep a small window open and when you have right menu it is blocked out of view.
I like and building websites with the side menu but also the top menu (1 row). If you want to put adsense in your website, try the side menu so you will be able to put adsense under it (not in the other side). You can also do a top menu and create a full cell for adsense only..
