Hi All! New to digitalpoint, but it seems like a good place to get opinions on a layout predicament I'm facing with an ecommerce site. My main issue is I have too many links, and I have to keep them all. I actually have 4 levels of nav in the header! EEK! We currently have a horizontal primary nav (see A), secondary nav of helpful links like galleries, FAQ, etc (see B), Tertiary nav for account log in and info (c), and then a global navigation to link between our other sites (D). I'm currently working on a project that requires me to add even more links to B and it's crowding my header space. I've already decided I'm moving facebook/twitter/YT etc. to the footer, but even still, it's too much. I can't really figure out the best place for B. These links should be accessible from every place on the site, and they are pretty important so I don't think the footer is an option. If you have any ideas, opinions, or even links to other sites that handle lots of links well, I'd appreciate it!
One thing to consider is consolidating all of those links so when you hover over or click on the link it brings a drop down with the extra links in it. For example, Media. You could have facebook, youtube, twitter, gallery etc. in that drop down, Resources could have FAQ, Installation, Programs, etc. An example of this is the nav menu for Digipoint. Hope this helps!
Have you tried a Mega Menu or Top Panel idea to be able to take the less often used items off screen ? Top Panel - http://codecanyon.net/item/ultimate-toppanel-wordpress-plugin/4665526 Mega Menu - http://codecanyon.net/item/css3-mega-drop-down-menu/126387
Thanks for the response Tom. That is a possiblity, but the primary nav also has drop downs. I'd have to be careful making sure the hit area is precise or else the drop down for the secondary nav might interfere with using the primary.
